Voice Over Fundamentals (for teens)

Voice Over seems like it should be easy, doesn’t it? I mean, it’s just talking, right?

Ummmm…not even a bit!! Everyone says the same thing when they first start learning voice over:

“Oh my goodness, this is so much more COMPLEX than I thought it would be!”

VO is skill-based speaking, complex reading, and competitive. And there’s no apprenticeship in voice over, no L-plates for learners – if you get cast, you’re expected to perform at the same level as the 20 year veterans.

Which means if you’re going to toss your hat in the voice over ring, you need to have the foundational skills sorted, be ready to perform them under pressure at a moment’s notice, AND be able to take direction effectively in the recording booth.

Here’s what you’ll learn during the 5 Week VO Fundamentals course:

  • Warming up for good vocal health and flexibility
  • Sight reading, breathing, and articulation skills
  • How to interpret a script quickly and connect to the story in the copy
  • Taking direction and quick techniques for varying your read on the spot
  • Different commercial voice over styles and which one suits you best

Voice over is a doing thing so this will be a hands-on, practical course with plenty of opportunities to read real copy from real ads, and get feedback on the spot. You’ll also have access to practice scripts so you can work on your vo skills in between classes.

What you’ll need:

  • a set of headphones
  • a pencil for marking copy
