Filmmaking
Filmbites was founded back in 2003 as a film school first, our filmmaking course is the oldest element of our identity as a school. Founded by Hallie McKeig and expanded upon by Tim Green our curriculum is written by industry professionals, and taught by them, too.
Learn how to translate your ideas onto the big screen. Filmbites Filmmaking course spans over six different levels; starting with Beginner Filmmaking the students are introduced to basic story theory, how to run a set,
All the way up to Advanced level filmmaking where the students spend a whole year on their keystone project; a short film written and directed by the student. The class cover pitching, producing and how to navigate film festivals.
Many of our graduating students have gone on to study at a tertiary level and even work in the industry to this day. If you are a young person wondering how to break into the film industry- please get in touch! We are passionate about helping young people navigate in the arts.

Intermediate Filmmaking
Year 1
This year, the focus is on the film director. Through the start of the year, filmmakers analyze the creative choices made by the director and heads of department. By critiquing key choices and breaking down all the components of the scene, students gain an appreciation of the thought process and deliberate practice that go into story and filmmaking. In the second half of the year, students apply this understanding to their own short films, with each student writing and directing their own film.
Year 2
This year, the focus is on the the other creative roles in the making of the films. Students look more in depth at the roles of the Production Designer, Director of Photography, Editor, and Sound Designer, and how they can work together with the director to create a cohesive vision. Students also learn to work with actors, and go through the process of casting their films.
