SCHOOL & COMMUNITY WORKSHOPS

We’ve taken our workshops as far north as Tom Price and as far south as Hopetoun.

Our workshops can run for one hour or 5 days!

We can come to you, or you are welcome to bring your students to our Studio in Malaga, complete with rehearsal rooms, a computer studio and Green Screen room with its own infinity wall.

We’ve even been the Town of Cambridge Artists-in-Residence!

Our instructors are industry professionals who build a fabulous rapport with the students, and all have a working with children check.

Elements of Drama

YEARS pp TO 6

Aligned with the WA curriculum, Filmbites’ Elements of Drama program gives students from PP to Year 6 a fun and solid grounding in Voice, Movement, Role, Situation, Space, Character, Time, Tension, Mood and Relationship, through 45-55 minute modules for each element.

These elements serve not only as building blocks for future drama training but also enhance literacy, communication, confidence, creativity and life skills.

The program has already received excellent feedback and results from eight metropolitan primary schools and repeast bookings.

Each module runs for one period, and the series can be programmed to suit your timetable and budget. Each module is $130, with discounts for multiple bookings. A maximum of $40 per student will cover almost 10 hours of exciting and valuable skills development.

Feedback from teachers and students of Floreat PS:

We loved having Filmbites at Floreat to deliver drama workshops for the second year in a row. The Year 5 and 6 students thought their instructor was funny and enthusiastic and the classes were fun and engaging. All students loved playing the drama games because it encouraged them to think and find other ways of doing things. They developed speaking and acting skills and the confidence to perform in front of an audience. Students said they liked using different voices when they performed. Teachers found their instructor to be full of enthusiasm, energetic, encouraging and positive with the students. Students said they would love to do drama all year!

Feedback from Kapinara PS and City Beach PS teachers:

“The class absolutely loved the drama sessions. The many ways to tell the stories that the instructor presented, as well as the story told, was most appropriate. The students loved the different activities and learnt a great deal about how to use the voices and bodies to express themselves. Thank you”

“The class really enjoyed the sessions each week, and it was great to see all the children participate completely”

“The impromptu drama opportunities, focus on important elements of drama and the creative expression was well worth the time devoted to it”

“This class was able to engage fully with all activities. There is very little distraction or friction within the group. The lesson structure and the students’ preparedness to engage fully made for a productive series of drama sessions”

“I wasn’t that keen on this class at first but I am totally sold now. Even my autistic student got right into it. Well done.”

“The instructors were so positive with all the children”

“Each session was so well planned”

“The children were so engaged”

“I was amazed at how the children got into it”

“(The workshop) gave them skills I couldn’t”

Screen Acting

Years 2 to 12

At Filmbites we teach more than ‘drama’. Students participate in our many tried and tested exercises and activities, focusing on screen acting techniques such as achieving naturalism and conveying emotion. They’ll also learn about equipment and crew roles and commands, and how these impact the role of the actor.

To aid the learning process, we’ll use our speciality camera and equipment, so students can actually view their work after each exercise too, increasing their practical understanding of the difference between stage and screen acting.

PEAC students had so much fun while developing a wide range of drama skills in their screen acting course. The Filmbites instructor had a high level of expertise and she engaged and challenged students while providing a safe environment for them to take risks and get out of their comfort zone.

Donna Wilson, PEAC North

Thanks to Peta and Filmbites for facilitating such awesome sessions from our centre in Carramar this term and throughout the school holidays. The organisation and planning was seamless, Peta maintained constant communication during the process to ensure the program was designed to meet our outcomes.

The delivery of the program itself has also been faultless. Jessica is so great with the kids and her passion, enthusiasm and skills in this field shine through every session. The sessions include a variety of activities to encourage young people to work both in groups and independently as well as learning theory and getting active with hands on experience.

We have received nothing but positive feedback from the young people and parents involved in the sessions. The program has provided a variety of great outcomes for our local young people and would be well received amongst all ages across the City of Wanneroo. Thanks. Laura, Youth Engagement Officer, City of Wanneroo

Jess was extremely professional in every detail of her workshop. From arriving in plenty of time, being flexible with needing to move venue last minute, to her delivery and ability to relate to the students.

The 12 students enjoyed every second of the 2 hour workshop and we would definitely like to hold one again. The information was appropriately aimed and delivered, at primary school students. Jess was enthusiastic, clear and supportive with her instructions and feed back. A thoroughly enjoyable experience.

 2D & 3D Animation

Years 4 to 12

Animation is a fabulous and fun blend of art, story and technology.

We teach Tahoma2D for 2D and Blender for 3D.

Both softwares are free, which makes learning animation in the classroom easy and transferable – students who wish to continue learning can easily access the software to continue learning at no cost.

Overall, I really enjoyed the animated scene workshops.  The different animating techniques we learnt were very interesting and fun to be taught about, and Lyam Overington was an amazing instructor who was willing to engage us on both a teaching and a personal level, which made the two days a lot of fun.  Really enjoyed this workshop and would recommend it to the students participating in the 9ArtsFest next year!

Green Screen VFX

YEARS 3 to 12

Kids love video special effects! Younger students are guided to create an improvised scene, shown how to use equipment to shoot a ‘green-screen-able’ scene, then watch an editing demonstration where they can participate in editing choices and see their imaginations come to life.

More experienced students are offered hands-on instruction on how to achieve a variety of effects such as creating explosions, changing a background and levitation.

Workshops can be generalised or focus on a theme e.g. Hogwart’s Magic or Star Wars.

I just wanted to say a quick thank you for attending our Combo Camp! We showed the video at the end of camp and everyone was laughing and so amazed and what you were able to edit and put together. It really was a new and exciting activity for the kids and one which a lot of them really enjoyed.

We also had great feedback about the effort and positive energy you put into encouraging and assisting each group, so thank you again.

Screen Presenting

YEARS 4 to 12

This workshop is ideal for students interested in vlogging and creating their own You-tube channel.

By learning some of the skills involved in screen presenting, students also attain more confidence in speaking in front of the camera, as well as writing, memory and focus skills.
